The CBSE will introduce open book assessments (OBAs) for Class 9 in the 2026-27 academic year, aiming to shift from rote learning to competency-based education. These OBAs will be part of regular pen-and-paper tests in key subjects. A pilot study revealed challenges in resource utilization, but teachers are optimistic about OBAs’ potential to enhance critical thinking.
